- Midsummer is one of the major seasonal celebrations for pagan folk. It falls on the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and marks the point at which the days are longest and nights the shortest. From this point forward, the days begin to get shorter.

- Anubis is one of the most recognizable of the Ancient Egyptian gods. He is depicted as a jackal-headed male associated with death, embalming, and the afterlife. However, many may not be aware that Anubis also has a female counterpart, his wife, Anput.
- As the wife of Anubis, Anput shares responsibility as a guardian of the departed, guiding souls on their transcendent journey to the afterlife. She is the goddess of mourning and bears the responsibility of protecting the physical remains in the course of transition.
- She is depicted as a jackal-headed woman, often in a flowing gown.
