• Though it wasn't always the case, most people from the 19th century on have thought of fairies as minuscule beings with butterfly wings. 
• There are hundreds of varieties of fae folk of all sizes with and without wings. Sprites, Brownies, Dryads, Nymphs, Elves and Elementals are just a few of the categories in the English-speaking countries. Fae folk tend to materialize out of nowhere and appear with slightly skewed human or animal features which are either uncomfortably ugly or unbelievably beautiful.
