Aznana's Aberrant Accouterments: Attack of the Mossballs: a Cautionary Tale

The day had been long and frustrating for William. A wood elf who had wandered too close to our camp seemed easy prey, but William had lost him in the brightness of midday.

William's white skin is more sensitive to sunlight than a dark Drow and he had returned to camp physically weakened and in a foul mood.

I had planned to spend the evening cheering him up with a little game of hide and go seek, but instead of looking at me, his crimson eyes were fastened on something just behind me.

"The moss!" he whispered hoarsely, "It just moved".

Oblivion Moss steals the memories of intelligent creatures. The seemingly harmless moss balls that had lain dormant at the edge of our camp during the day started multiplying and moving ominously towards us.

There really is no defense against sentient plant life. William fought valiantly, but in the end, oblivion came over his face and he was helpless as a newborn. Since I already lost my mind hunting for Twisted Cubes, I was safe from the Mossballs! In fact, they ran like little chickens when I turned to face them. I'll be reeducating William. This might actually be a good thing!

The lesson here is: Don't assume it's harmless just because it's cute.

Background is Drow on the Prowl * from PoseAble with added Dark Willow * from Love Everlasting. The landscape is composed of the ground, several trees, the small hill and waterfall and includes the tent, fire, poses and props in the top picture.
The animated Mossballs* are from Pixelancer. They pop up to walk on stilty legs before popping down to appear harmless. They don't multiply by themselves, but once I started playing with them, they were so cute I just couldn't stop adding more and they inspired the rest of the story!
