Twisted Hunt: The Inferno Sept 1-30

For 10 years the most disturbed and disturbing designers of Second Life have driven hunters to the brink of insanity with moving, mocking, multiplying, totally maddening Twisted Cubes. 
Twisted hunters are a special breed who sacrifice their sleep, their social life and their sanity in the pursuit of the CUBE

Your first stop should be Twisted Headquarters, where you can find your first cube and pick up your official Twisted lanyard and badge as well as getting a notecard with links to the Twisted website and Flickr pages. Join the Twisted group to chat with other Twisted hunters. Here I am at Twisted HQ reminiscing with some of the cubes from past hunts and feeling the weight of the impending hunt with this round's cube.

This round is inspired by Dante's Inferno, but do not assume that the fiery nature of the cube will make it easier to find. There are other areas in The Inferno and they will, no doubt,  affect the behavior and placement of the cubes, not to mention the prizes. Twisted is proud to be known as the hardest hunt on the grid. This one is going to be Hell!

A flea flew through a flaw in the flue

I shall bid adieu to LoveFest with one final thought.  Ask me to name my favorite author, I may say Bradbury or Tolkien. I'm likelier to say the Brothers Grimm. It depends who is asking the question and the context of the inquiry.  I'm a former librarian, so my favorite author is constantly in flux.
But lurking in the background is always H.P.Lovecraft. It was his work that got me through my university depressions and made me see that I wasn't really crazy.  I see his themes and imagery everywhere in stories and screenplays by other authors. 
His works were/are my guilty pleasure. The man was flawed, as are we all, but there was something about those stories that reached me when nothing else could. 
Thank you, Howard. And thank you to everyone who worked on Lovefest. 
It isn't so bad being crazy (in a good way) when others share your insanity.

Collect Call from Cthulhu

She had taken the position at the Sanitorium believing that she would be working in the library. She had just finished her training at Arkham University and looked forward to assisting the doctors in their research. Instead, she found herself with a few dozen tattered volumes of questionable origin and spent her days as little more than a glorified receptionist. She registered arriving patients, took a brief history and ushered them through the doors to the attendants in the exam rooms.

The incoming patients seemed to have a common complaint. They heard scuttering sounds and saw movements out of the corners of their eyes. Many of them dreamt or imagined that worms or arthropods were moving through their walls or under the ground where they walked. She was sure her old professors would say the populace was suffering from mass hysteria. She paid the stories no mind... until the night that she heard it.

She felt herself being drawn inexorably out into the foggy night. She walked down the steps from the Sanitorium and between the buildings, following the trolley tracks till she saw broken pavement and something odd on the sidewalk. 

As she knelt to examine it, she found herself caught up in entwining tendrils. She watched as multilegged creatures pushed up through the opening in the sidewalk. She waited as the sky turned to a mass of writhing clouds. The brooch at her collar started to move and she realized that Cthulhu was not in a book, but in the sky above LoveFest.
