What lies beneath - a Tribute to Grendel's Mother

Grendel's Mother is a tertiary character in the epic Old English poem, Beowulf. The character is not named in the poem and all we know about her is that she lives with her monstrous son in a flooded grotto and tries to warn her son about the dangerous human warriors he might encounter if he leaves the safety of their lair. Grendel ignores his mother's advice and they both die as a result.

I decided the Mother wasn't a monster in the usual sense, just a very powerful female shapeshifter with a few unusual features, who represents the dangers awaiting anyone who seeks to confront the unknown, either in the world or in themselves...

• Adding an eerie otherworldly touch are the Ghost Mage Hands. Imagine malevolent spiritual hands compelled to serve from beyond the veil. What might happen when they turn hostile to their binding mage?
